The past few weeks I have spent a lot of time working with Urologists. One thing I continue to hear is the WiCam wireless camera is the perfect tool for in-office stent removal. A ureteral stent is a catheter placed in the ureter to carry urine from the kidney the bladder. Some doctors will give the patient instructions on how to do ureteral stent removal at home. The patient will be told how and when to pull the string to get the stent out. If the string breaks, the doctor will need to be contacted to have the stent removed. The procedure involved in a ureteral stent removal will depend on the procedure used to insert it. In cases where a string is not left attached, a cystoscope is inserted into the patient’s urethra and the stent is grasped with an instrument and removed.

WiCam offers the following benefits in Urology:

With the WiCam system, set up is simple. The complexity and tedium to prepare for a conventional cystoscopy with a video tower is eliminated. Time consuming cleaning and sterilization of video equipment is greatly reduced. So is the need for highly skilled support staff.

Because set up is simple, you can perform a diagnostic cystoscopy or stent removal in any exam room in a matter of minutes. A dedicated procedure room is no longer required. Cystoscopy can be performed, if indicated, during almost any examination. The patient need not return for a cystoscopy at a later date.

With WiCam, high outlay for capital equipment is not required and the WiCam system can be utilized for almost any office based urological procedure requiring visualization.
